Players Sport Management was formed in 1997 in Johannesburg and due to the growth in Cape based clients; in April 1999 a small branch office was opened in Cape Town. In June, in order to facilitate the expansion of the Players Sport brand, and take the company global, a financial partner in Brait was consummated. In September on the back of Gary Teichmann’s move to Welsh Club, Newport, and the 1999 Rugby World Cup, a presence in Cardiff was established.

In November 2000 a joint venture was secured with one of the largest rugby agents in the United Kingdom. The joint venture was formed to take advantage of the significant rugby growth in France.

In April 2001, Players Sport bought out the rugby arm of SA Sports Agency. (This was a sports management company that was involved in the rugby and soccer market. The rugby arm operated out of Cape Town, South Africa). It also added a lot of talent and youth to our client base by bringing on board young stars like Marius Joubert, Pedri Wannenberg, Chris Rossouw and many others.

In June 2001, Players Sport merged with Promarksport Management.

Mike Makaab and James Macquet started Promarksport in August 1999, with Mike managing the soccer division and James the rugby division. Promarksport also managed the careers of a number of other prominent South African sportsmen prior to focussing their attention to rugby and soccer. Through the new merged entity, Promarksport’s rugby division then fell under Players Sport Management with Promarksport continuing to manage over 150 soccer players throughout Africa.
Promarksport, under the management of Mike Makaab, continued to concentrate on the soccer industry. Players Sport, under the management of Craig Livingstone, continued to focus on rugby player management. The bringing together of these two parties added immense value to both businesses and the merger allowed Players Sport to further its’ dominance in the rugby market not only in South Africa, but allowed us to further strengthen our position internationally AND allowed Promarksport the opportunity to focus on the soccer market nationally and internationally.

In July 2003 a decision was taken to consolidate the company further by becoming one entity. In February 2004, Prosport International was launched as the new name of company incorporating both soccer (Promarksport) and rugby (Players Sport).

Through this entity we hope to grow the business globally and become a dominant force in the player management arena. We have also launched our Special Projects division in which we will be looking at diversifying into market related activities. We hope to make some very exciting announcements in 2004.
